For the week of August 5th – 12th
We finally broke the dry pattern – last Tuesday we had a generalized rain across the farm throughout the day which resulted in between 25-32mm of much needed precipitation. The rain might be too late to have any impact on the earlier planted cereals, but should be beneficial for the later cereals as well as the canola. More than anything else, was more of a psychological boost – rain during the growing season has an uplifting effect! Along with the rain the temperatures were much cooler all week. Most days we had highs in the teens, but by the weekend it warmed back up to the mid 20’s. This next week looks to be getting warmer again with highs in the mid to high 20’s, with higher chances of rain as we get later into the week.
The big story is that we will likely start harvesting this week. All the equipment has been run through, we had opportunity to train new operators and do a refresher with the experienced operators. Everyone is getting excited – harvest is a time like no other on the farm, as you get to see the result of all the planning and hard work through the growing season!
